Hats off to Magna Golf Club – $40,000 raised

The annual OTRF golf tournament was held on Tuesday, August 14th at Magna Golf Club in Aurora, Ontario. Once again the tournament was a huge success as over $40,000 was raised for turfgrass research.   The generosity and support of our host venue was a big reason for this terrific fundraising achievement.   The level of service and hospitality was second to none as participants enjoyed a fantastic day of golf. Host Superintendent Wayne Rath and his staff deserve to be commended for their efforts. The golf course was in impeccable conditioning, despite the rains that preceded the event. As for the big winners of the day, the tournament’s low gross champ was John Alpaugh from AllTurf. The low net winner was ClubLink’s Greg Florence. As always, an event like this would not be possible without the generous support of our sponsors. The OTRF would like to extend a special thank you to our platinum sponsors; Green Horizons Group of Farms, Turf Care Products and The Andersons. The OTRF is very proud to be associated with the many first class golf facilities that have hosted this event over the years. Magna Golf Club did a wonderful job continuing this tradition. Thanks to everyone for attending and supporting the OTRF. We hope to see you next year!

SPOTLIGHT ON RESEARCH –  Guelph Turfgrass Institute celebrates 25th year

OTRF Director Justin Parsons brings greetings from the OTRF to the Guelph Turfgrass Institute Field Day in August.

Justin 23 GTI anniversary For over 30 years, the OTRF has been raising money to help fund turfgrass research and have been very proud to call the Guelph Turfgrass Institute home.  Shortly after the formation of the GTI, with the generous support of the turfgrass industry,  the OTRF was able to quickly raise the $1.5 Million needed to construct the G.M. Frost Research & Information Centre. This state of the art facility houses the administration, classroom and meeting facilities, lab space and office space for affiliated turfgrass industry associations.  Justin related that this world class facility provides great inspiration and credibility to our foundation for all of the OTRF fundraising efforts. On behalf of President Cedar Nisbet, and all of the volunteer board members, Justin Parsons wished the GTI another 25 years of continued success!

The OTRF is committed to raising money through donations to advance the turfgrass industry through scientific research that provide solutions to current turf management issues.
